UNI Volleyball Sweeps Evansville

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The UNI volleyball team defeated the Purple Aces of the University of Evansville Monday night in the McLeod Center 25-22, 25-21, 25-21. The team has rattled off seven straight wins, all over Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) teams.
Junior outside hitter, Karlie Taylor put on a show Monday night, recording her fourth match with at least 20 kills. Taylor recorded 20 kills on 38 attempts for an impressive .447 attack percentage and that mark was good enough for third best on the team with Jaydlin Seehase and Baylee Petersen coming in at .562 and .500 respectively. While Petersen recorded a kill on two attacks, Seehase finished with 11 kills, two errors on 16 total attacks. Piper Thomas added eight kills, one assist, and a solo block on the night. Collectively the Panthers hit .364 with 52 kills, 13 errors on 107 total attacks.
Rachel Koop again led the Panthers in assists with 39 and sits atop the conference with 12.70 assists per set. Defensively, it was a group effort but the reigning MVC Defensive Player of the Week, Kendyl Sorge led the way, recording 15 digs along with her six assists. Abbi Staack and Karlie Taylor provided help defensively, recoding 10 and eight digs respectively.
The Panthers limited Evansville to a .234 attack percentage for the match. While keeping the Purple Aces to .170 in the first set and .125 in the third set, Evansville recorded a .438 attack percentage in the second and pushed the Panthers before falling 25-21.

Now 7-0 in MVC play, the Panthers will hit the road for two matches against conference foes in Southern Illinois and Missouri State. Southern Illinois is currently 4-15 overall and 0-6 in the MVC and has lost eight straight matches. Missouri State is 10-9 overall and 3-3 in conference play. The Bears are currently on a three-match win streak and host Drake Oct. 12.
