UNI Volleyball Defeats Salukis 3-1

CARBONDALE, Illinois – The Panther volleyball team moved to 8-0 in Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) play, defeating the Salukis of Southern Illinois 25-15, 23-25, 25-10, 25-18. The Panthers are 8-0 for the first time since the 2011 season, when the team went a perfect 18-0 in conference play.
Friday was a special night for Piper Thomas who set a new career record for the Panthers, recording her 91st solo block. Thomas surpassed Denise Cuttell's career solo block mark of 90 set from 1987-90.
The Panthers were unexpectedly pushed to four sets after the Salukis edged out a second set win and responded with a near perfect set in the third, recording 13 kills and 0 errors on 20 total attacks for a .650 attack percentage.
Three Panthers finished the night with double digit kills, Piper Thomas (14), Jaydlin Seehase (16), and Karlie Taylor (25). Taylor also recorded her 11th double-double of the season with her 25 kills and 15 digs. Collectively the Panthers hit well, recording a .371 attack percentage and had had three players record attack percentages over .400 in Karlie Taylor (.442), Inga Rotto (.462) and Piper Thomas (.435).
Rachel Koop matched her season high assist mark with 53 while adding 10 digs and 4 kills. Kendyl Sorge continued to play well at the libero position, recording 14 digs and 6 assists on the night.

The Panthers will hit the road again to get to their next MVC match Saturday night. The Panthers will take on the Bears of Missouri State at 7 p.m. in Springfield, Missouri.
