UNI Men's Basketball Defeats Wartburg in Exhibition

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The UNI men's basketball team hosted the Knights of Wartburg College in the McLeod Center on Sunday afternoon in the team's first exhibition game of the season. The Panthers dominated the game from start to finish, defeating the Division III Knights 110-69.
The Panthers wasted little time getting out to a big lead, outscoring the Knights 22-8 in the first five minutes of the game. UNI entered halftime with a 74-37 lead while shooting 73% from the field as a team. Wyatt Lohaus finished the first half perfect, going 4-4 from the field, 1-1 from beyond the arc and 3-3 from the free throw line for 12 points. Miles Wentzien scored a team-high 13 points at the half, going 3-4 from the field and 5-6 from the free throw line.
A much more competitive second half for the Knights, as a team Wartburg made eight three-pointers to keep second-half scoring close but were still outscored 36-32 by the high powered Panther offense.
Freshman guard, AJ Green, lived up to the hype in his first action as a Panther, finishing with 16 points while going 6-13 from the field and 4-8 from beyond the arc. Green showed an impressive ability to put the ball in the right spot throughout the game, recording a team-high seven assist.
UNI's returning MVC All-Bench team member, Wyatt Lohaus, led the team in scoring with 18 points and seven assists in 23 minutes on the court. Guard Spencer Haldeman shot 50% from the field for 16 points and led the team in rebounds with 8. Junior Justin Dahl played just 12 minutes Sunday night and hauled in 8 rebounds. Senior Miles Wentzien ended the night with 15 points and two assists while Isaiah Brown added 13 points and four assists.

The Panthers now shift their focus to the Peacocks of Upper Iowa University. The Panthers are 29-23-7 all-time against the Division II Peacocks. The last time the Panthers and Peacocks played was in the 2014-15 season and saw the Panthers walk away with an 83-66 victory. The two Iowa based teams will hit the hardwood at 7 pm on Thursday, November 1 in the McLeod Center.
