UNI Soccer Finishes Third in the MVC, Hosts Evansville on Sunday

NORMAL, Illinois—The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team finished in third place in the Missouri Valley Conference Standings after defeating Illinois State, 3-1.

Jamie Althiser would put the Panthers up first in the 32nd of action after Hannah McDevitt's shot was deflected by Illinois State goalkeeper Haley Smith.

Illinois State would tie the match in the 55th minute of play, as Abby Basler connected with Kiley Czerwinski for the goal.

Sydney Hayden would net her sixth goal of the season in the 60th minute, answering the Redbirds goal to put UNI back up by one. Julianne Trizzino assisted on the goal.

The Panthers final goal of the match would come off an own goal in the 73rd minute of play, giving the Panthers a two-goal cushion.

Jami Reichenberger would face 22 shots from the Redbirds offense, with 10 saves on the match. The Panthers offense would post 7 shots against Smith of the Redbird, who recorded 2 saves.

"I'm thrilled with the effort and performance of our players tonight," said head coach Bruce Erickson. "Make no mistake, Illinois State is a quality team and we had to earn the victory. We are excited to play at home again on Sunday."
