THE GAME
No. 25 UNI Football hosts No. 2 South Dakota State for homecoming at the UNI-Dome Saturday. UNI is 3-3 on the season and 2-1 in MVFC play. South Dakota State is 5-1 on the season. Â
The Panthers are coming off of a 42-28 win over South Dakota on the road in the DakotaDome. UNI turned three turnovers into points and the Panther quarterback Eli Dunne went 23-32 for 253 yards and four touchdowns. He had completions to eight different receivers, and all caught multiple passes. Â
UNI faced the top passing offense in the conference in South Dakota. This week, UNI faces the top overall offense. The Jackrabbits average 529.6 yards per game and are 48.4 points per game, but the numbers are scewed with a 90-6 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff. SDSU has only played one game away from home, their lone setback of the season which was a 21-17 loss to NDSU.
SDSU has a balanced attack with 252.6 yards per game on the ground and 277.0 yards in the air. Senior quarterback Taryn Christion has 1,160 yards passing with just one interception on the year. Cade Johnson leads SDSU in receptions and receiving yards. Issac Wallace leads the rushing attack with 413 yards.Â
The Jackrabbit defense is 36th in the FCS in total yards allowed with 361.0 per game. Dalton Cox leads the way with 30 tackles.Â
Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.

• The Panthers are ranked 25th in the STATS FCS Poll and receiving votes in the FCS Coaches' Poll.
•UNI is one of just four teams in FCS football that has scored on every trip into the red zone this season. In 22 trips inside the 20, the Panthers have seven rushing touchdowns, nine passing TDs and six field goals. The Panthers are the only MVFC team to be perfect in red zone trips.
• Running back Marcus Weymiller, offensive tackle Cal Twait, quarterback Eli Dunne and linebacker Duncan Ferch were announced as captains for the 2018 season by head coach Mark Farley.Â
• Redshirt freshman Chris Kolarevic has produced in a big way in his first year on the field. He is currently third in the MVFC for total tackles at 65. Duncan Ferch is sixth at 55 tackles.Â
• Brothers Trevor and AJ Allen, sons of Panther Hall of Famer Andre Allen, are both making waves for UNI early this season. Trevor is UNI's leading rusher through six games. AJ is one of three Panthers with multiple interceptions and is tied for third on the team in total tackles
• Since USD joined the MVFC before the 2008 season, UNI is 6-5 against the SDSU. Last year, UNI split the two games against the Jackrabbits in 2017, winning the regular season matchup 38-18 before falling 37-22 in the playoffs.Â
• UNI leads the series 30-21-2.
• Last Saturday, the Panthers notched nine tackles for loss and five sacks. UNI also forced three turnovers, all three turnovers turned into touchdowns, including a fumble recovery by Brawntae Wells in the end zone. The Panthers also held South Dakota to just 41 yards rushing. Â
• UNI tallied consecutive shutouts for the first time since 2008 with wins over Hampton and Indiana State. The Panthers went nine quarters without giving up a point.Â
