Taylor and Panthers Tie with Redbirds, 150-150

NORMAL, Ill.—The University of Northern Iowa women's swimming and diving team tied with Illinois State tonight at 150 points.Â
Katie Taylor swam to three individual first-place finishes tonight against the Redbirds. Taylor timed in at fifty-nine seconds and forty-seven hundredths of a second in the 100 backstroke. Taylor was five seconds ahead of the competition in the 200 backstroke, swimming a 2:02.48. Taylor rounded out the evening, swimming a 2:07.62 in the 200 IM. Â
Molly Lembezeder and Rachel Siebenaller took first and second places in the 100 freestyle, timing in at 52.95 and 53.42.
Crystal Florman swam to first place in the 50 freestyle, swimming a 24.21. Florman swam to second place in the 100 butterfly, swimming a 58.47.
Kylie Engstrom and Jordan McCullough led the way for the Panthers in the distance races. In the 500 freestyle, Engstrom swam to a winning time of 5:12.11. McCullough followed in third place with a time of 5:17.31. In the 1000 freestyle, Engstrom and McCullough took second and fourth, with times of 10:36.43 and 10:53.31 respectively. Â
The Panthers claimed the relay races tonight, taking first in both events. In the 400 medley relay, Taylor, Moriah Ross, Florman and Lembezeder timed in at 3:51.88. Florman and Lembezeder would meet up with Siebenaller and Lauren Kacmarynski in the 200 freestyle relay, swimming a 1:36.90.
Siebenaller and Maya Appleton took second and third in the 200 freestyle, timing in at 1:56.66 and 1:58.31 respectively.
Ross placed in both the 100 and 200 breaststrokes tonight. In the 200 breaststroke, Ross timed in at 2:23.16 for second place. Ross took third place in the 100 breaststroke, timing in at 1:07.05.
Kelsey Ostrowski and Alex Binkley swam into second and third place respectively in the 200 butterfly, with times of 2:14.66 and 2:18.37.
Madison Rinaldi swam to two third-place finishes today. Rinaldi swam a 59.47 in the 100 backstroke. In the 200 backstroke, Rinaldi finished with a time of 2:08.97.
In the diving well, the Panthers took second through fourth places on the 1-meter boards. Freshman Jayden Lovell led the way in second, diving a 249.22. Alyssa Deuso dove into third place with a score of 243.97. Senior Hannah Brummel rounded the Panthers out, diving a 221.92.
On 3-meter boards, Brummel led the way for the Panthers, diving a 234.07 for second place. Lovell followed in third place, scoring a 230.77.
The Panthers travel to Western Illinois tomorrow afternoon for a 2 p.m. meet.
