Panthers Travel to Illinois for Dual Meets

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa—The University of Northern Iowa women's swimming and diving team wraps up regular season action this weekend, with meets at Illinois State (Jan. 19 at 5 p.m.) and Western Illinois (Jan. 20 at 2 p.m.)
The Panthers return to the pool after back-to-back meets at home. The Panthers defeated Iowa Central and Loras on Friday, Jan. 12 before falling to in-state rival Iowa State on Saturday.
Last season against Illinois State, the Panthers defeated the Redbirds to remain unbeaten in the Glen F. Henry Pool. The Panthers had strong performances from Molly Lembezeder, Crystal Florman, Kylie Engstrom, Rachel Siebenaller, and Katie Taylor.
The Panthers defeated Western Illinois to close out the 2016-17 season, defeating them in Iowa City, 163-55.
Last Time in Action
Lembezeder (Senior/Peosta, Iowa) was named MVC swimmer of the week after having two individual first-place finishes against Iowa State. Lembezeder narrowly grabbed first in the 50 freestyle, timing in at 24.11. Lembezeder was a full second ahead of the competition in the 100 freestyle, timing in at 52.72. Lembezeder would also be part of the Panther team that took first in the 400 freestyle, swimming a time of 3:38.38. Lembezeder would team up with Katie Taylor, Olivia Knowles and Crystal Florman for second place in the 200 medley relay, timing in at 1:47.57.
Taylor, (Soph./Muskego, Wi.) led all competitors in the 100 and 200 backstrokes. In the 100 backstroke, Taylor timed in at 56.08. In the 200 backstroke, Taylor swam a 2:00.80. Taylor was three seconds ahead of the competition in the 200 IM, taking first with a time of 2:05.96.
