Panthers Look to Defend Perfect Mark

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa--The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team looks to defend their perfect mark on the season as they host South Dakota State and Montana this weekend.
The Jackrabbits (2-3-1) of South Dakota State come to town for a 7 p.m. match up on Sept. 8. South Dakota State leads the all-time series with Northern Iowa, 7-1-3, with wins in the last two match ups. The Panthers won the last match up in Cedar Falls, 2-1, in 2014 but the Jacks hold a 3-1-1 advantage in road games against UNI in the series. In their last two matches, South Dakota State tied Iowa State before winning in overtime against Creighton, 3-2. Between the posts, Maggie Smither has recorded 26 saves on the season.
The Grizzlies (4-2-0) of Montana come to town on Sept. 10 for a 12 p.m. match up. It will be the first meeting between the two teams. Montana is led by a pair of freshmen, Alexa Coyle and Claire Howard. Coyle leads the team, with three goals, six points and eight shots on goal. Howard has posted two shutouts in the goal.
For the Panthers, junior Jami Reichenberger has yet to allow a goal this season, outscoring UNI's opponents 11-0. Reichenberger has started in all five games for the Panthers. Reichenberger, is ranked No. 2 in shutouts for the season in the nation, behind UW-Milwaukee who has played one more game. Senior Sarah Brandt, who sits tied at third for all-time UNI career goals, and Brynell Yount are leading the Panther attack through five games, tallying eight points (three goals, two assists) apiece while Hannah McDevitt has a goal and an assist.

After three weeks of competition, the MVC has a combined record over .500 in non-league play.
Regional Rankings
Two MVC teams are in The United Soccer Coaches' Midwest Regional Ranking. Northern Iowa lands at No. 12 in the rankings. Valparaiso, making the list for the third-straight week, fell to No. 15.

UNI remains undefeated after 5 games. The Panthers are one of 14 teams with a 1.000 win-loss percentage. Junior goalkeeper, Jami Reichenberger, is ranked No. 2 in shutouts for the season, behind UW-Milwaukee who has played one more game.

Northern Iowa along with conferences opponents, Valparaiso, Drake, and Indiana State have not lost a game at home this season.
