Box Score
WATERLOO, Iowa--The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team moved to a 5-0 to start the season for the first time in school history, as they played host to Kansas State.Â
Â
The Wildcats fell 2-2-1 after winning two straight matches. Â
Senior Haley Kerns (Gilbert, Iowa) grabbed her first goal as a Panther and got the Panthers on the board late in the first period. Kerns scored on a corner kick as the first half wound down.
"We played as well as we did on Friday and the second game of a weekend series is tough," commented UNI head coach Bruce Erickson.
Â
Kansas State wasn't about the let the Panthers control the game entirely. The Wildcats recorded 10 shots against the Panthers. Six were on goal and defended by Jami Reichenberger. Reichenberger has recorded 17 saves and has not allowed a goal in five matches this season.
Â
"We got our fifth shutout today, against a power-five team. They have been very dangerous in an attack and we defended well against them," remarked Erickson.
The Panthers remain at home, playing host to South Dakota State on Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. Â
