Panther Women Place Five In Top 25 At Iowa Invite

FULL RESULTS
IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa men's and women's cross country teams officially kicked off the 2017 slate as the Panthers closed out competition at the Hawkeye Invite in Iowa City.
"I thought today was a good day for our Panthers," head coach Dave Paulsen said. "We did some good things on both sides that I am proud of and it's always good to begin the season in this fashion. We're going to take the lessons learned here and move forward, but overall I feel pleased with our efforts."
WOMEN RECAP
The Panther women placed all nine runners in the top-30 of the 4,000 meters on Friday, with junior Tiffany Christensen leading the way at No. 12. Christensen finished with a time of 14.28.4, while senior Ashley Norem was not too far behind with a time of 14:36.9.
Following Christensen and Norem was a trio of Panthers as Gabb Skopec (No. 20;14:47.7), Alyssa Williams (No. 21; 14:50.3) and Kelsey Leedy (No. 22; 14:51.7) all finished in the top-25 on Friday.
FOUR WOMEN SET UNI TOP-10 RECORDS
Christensen (third-overall), Norem (fourth-overall), Skopec (eighth-overall) and Williams (10th-overall) all etched their names in the UNI record books on Friday after the Panther quartet set record times in the 4,000 meters among UNI runners.
MEN RECAP
On the men's side, CJ May had a very respectable showing after posting a time of 18:20.4 to finish at No. 13 in the 6,000 meters. Six other Panthers joined May in the top-50 at the Hawkeye Invite.
UP NEXT
After wrapping up their first regular-season meet, the Panthers will now take part in the Mayflower Day Open on Sept. 16 in Madison, Wisconsin.
