Singles Play Propels UNI Past Drake, 4-3

WATERLOO, Iowa—A losing streak was broken today as the University of Northern Iowa Panthers pulled away from Drake in women's tennis, 4-3.

The last win for UNI against Drake came on April 3, 2011. Drake had won the last eight meetings since a UNI victory six years ago.

Astrid Santos and Gisela Kemper went the distance in their singles matches. Santos faced-off against Tess Herder, pulling away 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (3). Kemper would be victorious over Kenya Williams, 1-6, 7-5, 6-2.

Eve Small defeated Mela Jaglarz 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 5 singles spot. Savanna Hunt defeated Alex Kozlowski 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 6 singles.

Jieke Stroobant would fall to Summer Brills in three sets 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. Sydney Wolfe would go the distance in the No. 4 singles spot, falling to Joely Lomas 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (5-7), 6-3.

Drake would nab the doubles point, winning all three doubles matches. Herder and Williams posted a 7-5 decision over Santos and Stroobant. Lomas and Kozlowski posted a 6-2 win over Kemper and Wolfe. Brills and Jaglarz defeated Small and Hunt, 6-2.

The Panthers continue conference action, hosting Missouri State and Wichita State on April 8 and 9.
