UNI Takes Series Against Missouri State

SPRINGFIELD, MO. - The University of Northern Iowa softball team completed their three series match-up against Missouri State on Sunday to take the series victory 2-1.

The Panthers' (14-11, 2-1 MVC) final game against the Bears (13-11, 1-2 MVC) was taken into eight innings after being tied 2-2 at the end of the seventh.

Missouri State was the first to put a run on the board in the bottom of the second. UNI quickly responded in the top of the third after a sac bunt from Brittney Roby brought in Courtney Krodinger to tie up the game 1-1.

A home run into right field from Jaci Spencer in the top of the fourth gave the Panthers the lead as the Bears remained scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings.

MSU would once again tie up the game in the bottom of the sixth due to a home run into right field from Darian Frost.

Neither team was able to score a run in the seventh. It would take an extra inning to determine the winner.

Bases were loaded for the Panthers in the top of the eighth when a wild pitch from Erin Griesbauer was all Brittney Krodinger needed to reach home plate and secure the 3-2 victory over the Bears.

Next up for Panther softball will be a three game series against Indiana State March 25-26 in Terre Haute, Indiana.
