CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – UNI wrestling will face nearly 50 wrestlers ranked in the top 20 at the Southern Scuffle set for Jan. 1-2, 2018.
"It will be a great test for our team," said head coach Doug Schwab. "We should have a lot of guys seeded fairly high."

UNI wrestling made its Southern Scuffle debut at last year's event. The Panthers entered the tournament ranked No. 22 in the nation and finished fifth as a team with 87.5 points.

Foster suffered an injury that prevented him from competing in his consolation matches. Five Panthers medaled:Â
- Josh Alber - third, 133 pounds
- Max Thomsen - third, 149 pounds
- Bryce Steiert - third, 165 pounds
- Drew Foster - sixth, 184 pounds
- Taylor Lujan - seventh, 174 pounds
Ten of the 15 Panthers representing UNI have competed at the Southern Scuffle (record at last year's tournament, last year's wins over ranked opponents at the event):
