UNI Wrestling Cracks Rankings, Preps for Grand View

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – UNI wrestling has seven student-athletes who have cracked the rankings after the first week of competition.

The Panthers earned top-15 spots in all the major polls:

NWCA preseason: No. 13
FloWrestling: No. 12
Intermat: No. 13 tournament / No. 14 dual
Trackwrestling: No. 13

Max Thomsen leads the Panthers in rankings. He knocked off No. 5 Matthew Kolodzik of Princeton at the NWCA All-Star Classic, an exhibition match. He is ranked third at 149 pounds by FloWrestling, Intermat, The Open Mat and Trackwrestling.

Drew Foster slides in right behind Thomsen at the No. 4 spot for 184 pounds from all the same polls.

Jay Schwarm knocked off Brock Hudkins, a returning NCAA qualifier for Northern Illinois, and earned a spot in all the major rankings at 125 pounds. He is ranked 14^th by The Open Mat, 17^th by Trackwrestling and 20^th by Intermat and FloWrestling.

Josh Alber earned a spot after moving up a weight to compete at 141 pounds this year.

The Open Mat: ninth
FloWrestling and Trackwrestling: 12^th
Intermat: 14^th

Taylor Lujan cruised through the Harold Nichols Open for his first title of the season last week, earning a top-10 spot in most of the 174-pound rankings.

Trackwrestling: ninth
FloWrestling and Intermat: 10^th
The Open Mat: 11^th

Jacob Holschlag cracked The Open Mat and Trackwrestling rankings at 14^th and 19^th, respectively. Freshman Carter Isley, who led the Harold Nichols Open tournament with three falls in 8 minutes, 18 seconds, is ranked No. 24 by Trackwrestling.

UP NEXT

UNI will head to the Grand View Open this weekend. Wrestling will start at 9 a.m. CT Nov. 11 in Des Moines.

The Panthers open dual competition at No. 20 Cornell Nov. 17. UNI will return home to face North Dakota State 2 p.m. Nov. 19.
