Max Thomsen Knocks off No. 5 Wrestler in All-Star Classic

PRINCETON, N.J. - Two UNI wrestlers opened their seasons at the prestigiousNWCA All-Star Classic.Â
Just 20 collegiate wrestlers were invited to compete in the men's division.Â
No. 3 Max Thomsen won with a 4-3 decision over Princeton's No. 5 Matthew Kolodzik at 149 pounds. Thomsen, a sophomore from La Porte City, Iowa, took fifth at last year's NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships at 149 pounds.Â
At 184 pounds, No. 4 Drew Foster scored first in his match but was edged out by No. 3 Pete Renda of North Carolina State, 5-2. Foster of Burlington, Iowa, took seventh at the 2017 NCAA national championships.Â
Both matches were considered exhibition matches and don't count toward their season or career record. UNI opens the dual season with No. 20 Cornell on the road Nov. 17.Â
