Panthers Cruise Past Cougars In Exhibition Play

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – It was raining 3-pointers at the McLeod Center on Sunday, as the Northern Iowa women's basketball team handled Sioux Falls (S.D.) in convincing fashion, 80-53.
UNI buried 12 triples from beyond the arc, with four Panthers scoring in double-digits. Junior Mikaela Morgan led the Panthers with 18 points, with freshman Karli Rucker and sophomore Megan Maahs scoring 15 and 12 respectively. Freshman Nicole Kroeger came off the bench to add 14 after nailing 4 of 5 shots from 3-point land.
As a team, the Panthers outrebounded the Cougars on the glass 45-31. UNI shot 45.8% from the field, which was also better than USF's 30.4% total.
The Panthers' sprinted out to a 10-0 lead to start the game, which was sparked by four quick points from Maahs. UNI carried the early advantage to end the first quarter on top, 23-11. The Panthers remained in control heading into the second, as the 3-pointers began to fall for UNI. Rucker and Morgan each added a triple, while Maahs chipped in four points as UNI carried a 38-29 lead into the locker room.
UNI continued to run the table coming out of the break, as freshman Kroeger came off the bench with eight-straight points – including a pair of 3-pointers – to propel the Panthers to a 26-point third quarter. UNI rode out the momentum in the final 10 minutes as the Panthers scored an 80-53 exhibition win over the Cougars.
