
Braves Tally 4-3 Victory Over Panthers

WATERLOO, Iowa - For the eighth time this season, the University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team finished on the wrong end of a 4-3 decision.
On Sunday at the Byrnes Tennis Center, the Bradley Braves became the eight squad to defeat the Panthers in a 4-3 match. Bradley improved to 12-12 overall and 3-4 in Missouri Valley Conference duals. UNI fell to 4-16 overall and 1-6 in league dual action.Â
Bradley gained the early edge by earning the doubles point. UNI captured the No. 1 doubles match as Jieke Stroobant and Elvira Lopez teamed up to post a 6-1 win over Bradley's Alexa Brandt and Ashley Thai. For Stroobant and Lopez it was their team-leading 18th doubles wins of the season. However, the Braves posted victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to claim the point.
For the second straight day, UNI split all six singles matches to come up just short in the dual battle. UNI recorded singles wins from No. 2 Elvira Lopez, No. 3 Astrid Santos and No. 4 Gisela Kemper.
Lopez notched a 6-2, 6-1 win over Bradley's Alejandra Lasa. Lopez recorded her eighth singles win of the dual season.Â
UNI's Astrid Santos won her third straight singles match with a three-set win over Bradley's Ashley Thai, 6-2, 1-6, 6-3. Santos also captured her eighth dual victory of the spring.
UNI's Gisela Kemper earned her team-best 19th singles win of the season with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph over Bradley's Alexa Brandt. Kemper is 9-3 at No. 4 singles and 19-8 overall on the year.
UNI will be the No. 7 seed for the 2016 MVC Tournament set for April 29-March 1 in Wichita, Kan. UNI will take on No. 2 seeded Southern Illinois in a quarterfinal matchup on Fri., April 29, at 4:30 p.m.
