UNI Falls At Iowa, 88-39

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team fell to the Iowa Hawkeyes on Sunday afternoon, 88-39. UNI is 4-4 overall this season.
The Hawkeyes shot an astounding 69-percent from the arc and 61-percent overall against the Panthers, holding UNI to just 21-percent from the field.
Senior Madison Weekly scored a team-high 12 points, also adding two assists and a career-high four steals. Mikaela Morgan added seven points while Hannah Schonhardt led the Panthers in rebounds with eight.
Iowa came out of the gate shooting 63-percent from the field in the first quarter and 83-percent from the three while UNI shot 18-percent from both. Five of UNI's 10 first quarter points came from Weekly, but with the Hawkeyes shooting 5-for-6 from the arc, UNI trailed 25-10 heading into the second quarter.
Megan Maahs scored UNI's first points in the second quarter, giving UNI some relief in the paint, making it 30-12 with 6:11 on the clock. Weekly was also able to hit one of her two three-pointers in the third quarter, three of her five points in the quarter, but UNI went into halftime down 40-17.
UNI scored four points in the paint to start the third quarter thanks to jumpers from Schonhardt and Taylor Hagen, making it 48-21 with 6:43 left to play in the quarter. Weekly was able to hit a jump shot of her own with 6:09 on the clock, but it would be the last field goal scored by the Panthers that quarter, moving to the fourth quarter down 41 points.
Iowa shot 61-percent from the field in the fourth quarter to keep their lead, limiting UNI to 27-percent shooting in the final quarter. The Panthers eventually fell 88-39.
UNI returns to action when they host Creighton on Dec. 10 to start a three-game home stand. The game against the Bluejays is set for a 2 p.m. CT tip inside the McLeod Center.
Post-Game Notes vs. Iowa
- UNI's game against Iowa was head coach Tanya Warren's 300th game at the helm.
- Madison Weekly played in her 100th career game as a Panther against Iowa. With her five made field goals against the Hawkeyes, she has cracked the top-10 all-time at UNI in career field goals made at 448, tying for ninth with Tami Schebler (1980-84).
- With her two three-pointers, Madison Weekly has taken over sole possession of the No. 4 spot all-time at UNI for career three-pointers made with 204. She passed Nadine Brandt who has 202 from 1997-02.
- Five of Hannah Schonhardt's eight rebounds against the Hawkeyes were on the defensive side of the ball, moving her into No. 8 all-time at UNI in career defensive rebounds with 427.
