UNI Falls At Oklahoma State, 81-57

STILLWATER, Okla. – The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team took on its second Big 12 opponent of the season, falling 81-57 to the Oklahoma State Cowgirls on Wednesday night. UNI is 2-2 overall this year.
UNI had all 13 players on the 2016-17 roster see action against the Cowgirls with Madison Weekly scoring a season-high 20 points. The senior went 8-for-11 from the field including 2-for-3 from the arc. She also added a season-high five rebounds and two steals.
Mikaela Morgan added nine points on three made three-pointers with Kennedy Kirkpatrick and true freshman Abby Gerrits adding seven points each.
UNI kept the Cowgirls close to start the first quarter, forcing three turnovers in the first four minutes to take a 4-2 lead, but Oklahoma State gained control when they went on a 7-2 run to take a 13-6 advantage with 4:55 on the clock. Despite shooting 50-percent from the field in the first quarter, UNI struggled in the paint, getting outscored 18-4 on the blocks, heading into the second quarter down 28-15.
OSU led by as many as 17 to start the second quarter, but five unanswered points from Weekly brought UNI back within 12 with 7:03 left to play. The Cowgirls kept pushing, forcing UNI to go into a scoring drought for over two minutes before Morgan drained a three-pointer under pressure to make the score 39-26 with less than five minutes remaining in the quarter.
The Panthers were unable to score for the remaining four minutes of the second quarter, trailing Oklahoma State 47-26 into halftime. UNI was unable to catch up to the Cowgirls, with Oklahoma State scoring 44 of its 81 points in the paint.
UNI shot 36-percent from the three, knocking down eight from deep with Weekly and Morgan hitting multiple threes. UNI also outscored the Cowgirls in bench points, 29-25, including five points from redshirt freshman Rose Simon-Ressler in her first collegiate game.
UNI returns to action on Friday, Nov. 25 when they take on Idaho at 3 p.m. CT. It is part of the Grand Canyon Thanksgiving Tournament, also playing Denver on Saturday, Nov. 26 at 2 p.m. CT.
