UNI Wrestling Edged Out by Ohio, 18-17

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – UNI wrestling was edged out 18-17 at home by Ohio on Sunday.(1/31/2016) 2016 - Ohio vs. UNI Wrestling
The Panthers fall to 3-7 overall and 2-4 in the MAC. Ohio improved 9-3 overall, 4-3 in the MAC.
UNI jumped out a 6-0 team lead with a first-period fall from Dylan Peters at 125 pounds. No. 7 Peters now has 33 career falls. He is sixth among all Panthers for most career falls in UNI history. Moza Fay is fifth with 37.
"I thought he did a great job this weekend," said head coach Doug Schwab. "He's making some good adjustments. I like what I saw out of him. He stepped up and got bonus points for us today. Mentally, he's in as good of a spot as he's been since I've coached him."
Ohio went ahead in team scoring with three straight wins. Bryce Steiert tied up the team scoring for the Panthers with a 2-0 decision over No. 26 Spartak Chino, a three-time NCAA qualifier. Chino is ranked second in the MAC. Steiert stands at fourth in the conference.
Ohio and UNI went into the intermission tied 9-9.
Cooper Moore pushed the Panthers ahead with a 6-2 decision over No. 30 Austin Reese at 165 pounds.
Kyle Lux pushed the pace at 174 pounds, but an escape early in the second period was all it took for All-American No. 10 Cody Walters to get the 1-0 decision and put the team score back at 12-12.
Drew Foster was edged out by No. 24 Andrew Romanchik to give the Bobcats the 15-12 team lead.
At 197 pounds, Jared Bartel faced his sixth top-20 opponent of the year with No. 14 Phil Wellington, a three-time NCAA qualifier. Bartel had the first lead with an escape, but Wellington took the match 6-4.
Blaize Cabell earned a tech fall, racking up 11 takedowns and nearly four minutes of riding time to go on to win 25-9.

UNI will host Iowa State 7 p.m. Feb. 5. Fans are asked to wear purple. The Panthers return to the West Gym to host Kent State at 7 p.m. Feb. 6 for Defeat Dementia Night.
