CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – UNI wrestling dropped the first of two home duals set for the weekend with a 22-11 loss to No. 21 Central Michigan.(1/29/2016) 2016 Wrestling vs. CMU

UNI wrestling returned to the West Gym after being on the road since late November. They fell to 3-6 overall, 2-3 in the MAC. CMU improved to 6-3/3-1.

Central Michigan jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two matches when Cooper Moore stopped the CMU run, earning a major decision, 9-1. Moore earned his third MAC win to stay perfect in conference duals.

Central Michigan took the next three matches. It was Blaize Cabell who sparked a couple of wins for the Panthers. He drew three stall points and grabbed five takedowns to get the second set of bonus points for UNI with a 15-5 major decision over Newton Smerchek.

The Panthers narrowed the team score but still trailed 16-8.

No. 7 Dylan Peters returned to the mat for the first time since early December. He stayed perfect in duals (5-0) with an 8-3 decision over No. 19 Brent Fleetwood.

"He came out firing tonight," said head coach Doug Schwab. "His shape looked great. He has continued to fight back. Everything will fall back into place. I liked how he looked. I am proud of how he competed."

UNI returns to the West Gym to host Ohio at 2 p.m. Sunday. The Bobcats are tied with Central Michigan for third in the MAC. UNI is currently ranked second. UNI faculty and staff get reduced tickets with valid UNI ID Sunday.
