Panthers Set for MVC Semifinal Matchup with Evansville

The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team is set to face the Evansville Aces in the semifinal of the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Soccer Tournament on Friday at 6 p.m. The game marks the third time (2002, 2011) that UNI has made it to the semifinals of the tournament, compiling a 2-7-2 MVC Tournament record along the way.
The Panthers (7-8-5, 1-3-2 MVC) defeated the Aces in their last meeting, coming out on top 1-0 at the Cedar Valley Soccer Complex on Oct. 3.
"I think they're (Evansville) a little more confident than at the time when we played them," said UNI Head Coach James Price. "At that time they had lost quite a few games and had a hard time trying to score but lately they've been on bit of a run and scoring goals. I think we will see a very good team that was a very good team when we played them. You add a bit of confidence to that and they've obviously become a very dangerous team to play against."
Over the last five games the Panthers have tallied a 2-1-2 record, including a win over Missouri State and a draw with MVC regular season champion Drake.
"Last three games we've been really aggressive and starting the game with a high tempo and I expect us to do that again tomorrow night," said Price. "We're at the point now where we know what we're good at and what we're not good at. We just got to make sure we play with a quick tempo, win a lot of first and second balls, and try to turn the other team around a bit."
