UNI Uses Potent Second Half to Beat Drake, 64-40

DES MOINES, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa men's basketball used a 33-11 advantage in the second half to post a 64-40 road win over the Drake Bulldogs on Saturday in the Knapp Center.
UNI (14-2 overall, 3-1 MVC) trailed 29-27 with 1:10 left in the first half. The Panthers then went on a 32-2 run to take a 59-31 lead with 7:47 left in the game. UNI made 12 of its first 14 shots in the second half, while limiting Drake to one field goal in its first 11 second-half attempts.
Sophomore Jeremy Morgan scored a game-high 15 points and he drained a career-high tying three 3-pointers in the victory. Senior guard Deon Mitchell added 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field. Senior Seth Tuttle chipped in with 12 points and handed out four assists. Senior Marvin Singleton had a balanced stat sheet with nine points, seven rebounds, four assists and a block.
Drake led by nine points in the first half at 14-5. But UNI used a 15-5 run to take its first lead of the game at 20-19. The score was tied five times in the first half with eight lead changes.
Drake (3-13 overall, 0-4 MVC) was led by Reed Timmer's 13 points.
UNI will travel to Peoria, Ill., to take on the Bradley Braves on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
NOTES: UNI's starters scored 56 of its 64 points ... it is the 10th time this season that UNI has held the opposition to less than 40 percent shooting from the floor - Drake shot 35.0 percent for the game ... Drake was 3-of-17 from the field in the second half ... UNI is 34-1 under head coach Ben Jacobson when holding the opponent to less than 50 points ... UNI has won 27 straight games when holding the opposition to less than 50 points ... UNI came into the game ranked No. 15 in the country in scoring defense at 56.4 ppg -- UNI dropped that figure to 55.4 ppg after limiting Drake to 40 points.
