Panthers Swim Past Mavericks, 168-132

Omaha, Neb. - The University of Northern Iowa swimming and diving team was in Omaha, Neb. today for a noon dual meet against the Mavericks of Nebraska-Omaha University. The Panthers defeated UNO by a final score of 168-132.
200 Medley Relay
The Panthers began their dual against the Mavericks in winning fashion. The 200 medley relay team of Aftin Phyfe, Veronica Herrmann, Taylor Ostrowski and Molly Lembezeder captured the event win with a time of 1:50.57.
1000 Freestyle
Freshman Rachel Siebenaller now has double-digit (10) event wins in her UNI career after claiming victory in the 1000 freestyle event. The Germantown, Wis. native's first-place finish checked in at a time of 10:38.12.
200 Freestyle
Junior Sierra Sactjen added to her season win total by taking the top spot in the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:59.03. Senior Elise Drewsen logged a season-best time in the 200 freestyle with a 2:01.93 event elapsed time.
100 Backstroke
Sophomore Aftin Phyfe took the runner-up spot in the 100 backstroke. The Waverly, Iowa native's second-place finish came in a time of 1:00.28. Senior Miki Freese followed Phyfe with a third-place finish. Freese's podium worthy time clocked in at 1:02.14.
100 Breaststroke
UNI won the 100 breaststroke event courtesy of sophomore Veronica Herrmann. Herrmann's first-place finish came in a time of 1:08.12. Fellow sophomore Jill Georgen finished second in the event with a season-best time of 1:09.97.
200 Butterfly
The Panthers placed second in the 200 butterfly after junior Taylor Ostrowski finished the event in a time of 2:08.45.
50 Freestyle
The Panthers were led by Molly Lembezeder in the 50 freestyle. The Freshman was joined by teammate Miki Freese on the podium. Freese and Lembezeder's elapsed times clocked in at 24.58 and 24.23 respectively.
3 Meter Diving
UNI's divers Sarah Kemp, Allie Bey, Jessica Misra and Hannah Brummel placed first through fourth places respectively. Kemp's first-place finish on the 3 meter board came with a final dive score of 252.67.
100 Freestyle
Panther freshman Molly Lembezeder was the top-finisher in the 100 freestyle. Lembezeder's final time of 52.53 was good for second-place in the event. Senior Miki Freese joined Lembezeder in the top three with a third-place finish.
200 Backstroke
Aftin Phyfe's first-place finish in the 200 backstroke came in a season-best time of 2:11.84. Junior Sierra Sachtjen claimed the runner-up spot with a time of 2:12.42.
200 Breaststroke
Sophomore Veronica Herrmann was the top UNI finisher in the 200 breaststroke, capturing the runner-up spot courtesy of a 2:28.01 elapsed time.
500 Freestyle
Freshmen Rachel Siebenaller and Maya Appleton placed first and second respectively in the 500 freestyle. Siebenaller's winning time clocked in at 5:15.14.
100 Butterfly
Carol Stream, Ill. native Taylor Ostrowski was the top Panthers finisher in the 100 butterfly, taking the runner-up spot with a time of 59.52. Sophomore Stephanie Jackson rounded out the UNI finishers, placing third.
1 Meter Diving
The UNI divers carried their momentum from the 3 meter board to the 1 meter. Led by Allie Bey's first-place finish; Sarah Kemp, Hannah Brummel and Jessica Misra placed second through fourth places respectively. Bey's winning dive score of 276.59 was a season-best.
200 IM
Stephanie Jackson led UNI in the 200 IM, finishing third in a time of 2:15.83. Junior Taylor Ostrowski followed Jackson with a fourth-place finish in a time of 2:16.59.
400 Freestyle Relay
The team of Molly Lembezeder, Aftin Phyfe, Miki Freese and Rachel Siebenaller combined for the 400 freestyle relay event win. The quartet's first-place finish came in a time of 3:32.42.
What's Next
The Panthers return to the pool Friday, Jan., 23 at 6:00 p.m. at Beyer Hall Pool in Ames, Iowa where they will take on the Iowa State Cyclones in a dual meet at the HPER Swimming Pool.
