AMES, Ia. -- The University of Northern Iowa swimming and diving team resumed action in Ames this evening after their winter training break. A dual match against in-state rival Iowa State hit the Beyer Hall pool at 6 p.m. with the Cyclones claiming the dual victory by a final tally of 197-99. The Panthers dual record now stands at 3-3.
UNI freshman Rachel Siebenaller and junior Taylor Ostrowski headlined a number of strong performances. Siebenaller took the victory in the 1000 freestyle -- which marks her 13th event win this season -- and took runner up finishes in both the 500 freestyle and 200 freestyle relay. Siebenaller's winning time in the 1000 freestyle of 10:26.16 was a personal-record, and good for second on the UNI all-time record list. Junior Carol Stream, Ill. native Taylor Ostrowski won the 200 butterfly -- her fourth 200 fly win of the season -- and finished second in the 100 butterfly.
Other notable performances came from Stephanie Jackson, Sarah Kemp, Jessica Misra, Molly Lembezeder, Aftin Phyfe and Miki Freese.
Lembezeder, Phyfe, Freese and Siebenaller combined for a final time of 1:38.51 in the 200 freestyle relay, good for second place.
