Panthers Fall to Nebraska, 159-79

Lincoln, Neb. - The University of Northern Iowa swimming and diving team were at Devaney Natatorium this evening for a dual event against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The Panthers would fall to the Cornhuskers 159-79, however, there were plenty of strong individual performances in the pool and on the diving board from the Panthers.
200 Medley Relay
The team of Mariah Holmes, Stephanie Paape, Stephanie Jackson and Riley Morgan combined to be the Panthers top finishing 200 medley relay team.
1000 Freestyle
Meredith Gorman was the top UNI finisher in the 1000 freestyle. Gorman set a season best time of 11:06.23 in the event.
200 Freestyle
Rachel Siebenaller continued her outstanding freshman season as a Panther by winning the 200 freestyle event. Siebenaller's final time clocked in at a personal-record of 1:53.47.
50 Freestyle
Freshman freestyle swimmer Molly Lembezeder was the top UNI finisher in the 50 freestyle, taking third-place in the event with a time of 24.25. UNI's next best finisher in the 50 freestyle was senior Miki Freese.
200 IM
Junior Taylor Ostrowski took top honors for UNI in the 200 IM. The Carol Stream, Ill. native finished the event with a time of 2:17.44.
3 Meter Diving
Junior divers Allie Bey and Sarah Kemp continued their strong diving season's this evening at Devaney Natatorium. Bey was the top finisher for UNI in the 1 meter event, logging a final dive score of 231.22.
100 Butterfly
Junior butterfly swimmer Taylor Ostrowski once again led the Panthers in the 100 butterfly event. She was followed by senior Lindsey Phelps.
100 Freestyle
As they have been the entire season, the Panthers were led by freshman Molly Lembezeder in the 100 freestyle event. Lembezeder took runner-up with a time of 52.75. UNI's next best finisher in the event belonged to sophomore Aftin Phyfe who placed fourth.
100 Backstroke
Senior Miki Freese captured the runner-up spot in the 100 backstroke final. Freese's second-place finish came with a final time of 1:02.63. Junior Sierra Sachtjen was UNI's next best finisher, placing third.
500 Freestyle
UNI captured second and third places in the 500 freestyle event. Sophomore Stephanie Jackson led the Panthers with her runner-up finish and season-best time of 5:19.13. Freshman Maya Appleton's third-place finish was a season-best for the 500 freestyle event.
1 Meter Diving
Allie Bey carried her momentum from the 1 meter diving board to the 3 meter, capturing second-place with a season-best dive score of 263.32. Bey was followed by fellow junior Sarah Kemp who placed fourth with a final dive score of 240.90.
100 Breaststroke
Junior Veronica Herrmann continued her strong season in the breaststroke events with a runner-up finish against the Cornhuskers. Herrmann's second-place finish came in a time of 1:07.98, she was followed by freshman Olivia Knowles who placed third, a season-best finish for the freshman.
200 Freestyle Relay
The team of Molly Lembezeder, Aftin Phyfe, Miki Freese and Rachel Siebenaller combined for a runner-up finish in the 200 freestyle relay. Their second-place finish checked in at a time of 1:37.98. The team of Ashley Nelson, Elise, Drewsen, Lindsey Phelps and Olivia Knowles followed the second-place relay team with a strong showing, finishing in third.
What's Next
The Panthers return to the pool tomorrow, Saturday, Dec, 13 at Noon in Omaha, Neb. where they will take on the UNO Mavericks in a dual meet at the HPER Swimming Pool.
