Panthers Fall to Illinois State, 190.5-108.5

CEDAR FALLS, Ia - The University of Northern Iowa swimming and diving team fell to the Illinois State Redbirds today at the Glen F. Henry Pool by a final score of 190.5-108.5.
200 Medley Relay
The team of Aftin Phyfe, Veronica Herrmann, Taylor Ostrowski and Molly Lembezeder combined to finish second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:51.25.
1000 Freestyle
The Panthers were led by Maya Appleton in the 1000 freestyle. The Freshman finished the race in a time of 11:04.58.
200 Freestyle
Rachel Siebenaller led the Panthers in the 200 freestyle with a runner up finish and a time of 1:55.71. The Freshman was followed by junior Sierra Sachtjen who placed fourth.
100 Backstroke
Aftin Phyfe and Miki Freese were top finishers for UNI in the 100 backstroke. Sophomore Aftin Phyfe's time checked in at 1:00.96.
100 Breaststroke
Sophomore Veronica Herrmann claimed the victory in the 100 breaststroke. Herrmann's time checked in at 1:08.03.
200 Butterfly
Taylor Ostrowski continued her hot start to the season by finishing first in the 200 butterfly. Ostrowski, a junior, finished the race with a time of 2:09.06.
50 Freestyle
Freshman Molly Lembezeder tied for first with Illinois State's Marissa Yontz in the 50 freestyle. Lembezeder and Yontz's time was 24.13.
1 Meter Diving
Junior Sarah Kemp captured runner up on the 1 meter diving board. Kemp's final tally was 266.02. Fellow junior Allie Bey placed fourth with a 1 meter dive score of 245.36.
100 Freestyle
UNI freshman Molly Lembezeder took a runner up finish in the 100 freestyle. Fellow freshman Rachel Siebenaller narrowly missed a third place finish with a final time of 54.48.
200 Backstroke
Sophomore Aftin Phyfe took runner up to the Redbirds in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:11.55.
200 Breaststroke
Sophomore Veronica Herrmann led the Panthers in the 200 breaststroke. Herrmann placed second and finished with a final time of 2:28.81. Sophomore Jill Georgen captured third place with a time of 2:32.25.
500 Freestyle
Rachel Siebenaller narrowly missed a first place finish in the 500 freestyle. Illinois State's winning time was 5:11.26 while Siebenaller's runner up time was 5:11.32.
100 Butterfly
After notching a win in the 200 butterfly sophomore Taylor Ostrowski finished runner up in the 100 fly. Ostrowski's second place finish came in a final time of 1:00.17.
3 Meter Diving
UNI divers Allie Bey, Sarah Kemp, Hannah Brummel and Jessica Misra placed second to fifth respectively behind Redbird senior diver Wendy Zhang. Zhang captured first place in both the 3 and 1 meter dives. Bey's runner up finish was accomplished with a dive score of 260.32.
200 IM
Junior Taylor Ostrowski led the Panthers in the 200 IM, finishing second with a time of 2:17.16. Stephanie Jackson, Veronica Herrmann and Olivia Knowles placed third to fifth place respectively.
400 Freestyle Relay
Molly Lembezeder, Rachel Siebenaller, Miki Freese and Aftin Phyfe combined to finish second in the 400 freestyle relay. Their runner up finish came in a time of 3:32.82.
What's Next
The Panthers will be back in action on Friday, November 21st through Sunday, November 23rd when they will compete at the Kansas Invitational in Lawrence, Kansas.
