
Panthers Fall to Evansville, 3-0

EVANSVILLE, Indiana – The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team faced off against the University of Evansville on Saturday afternoon and lost by a final score of 3-0.
The Panthers put the pressure on Evansville early as Sarah McHugh and Annie Dale were both able to put a hard shot on goal in the opening 20 minutes but were unable to put a shot past Evansville keeper, Simone Busby. Busby came into the game leading the conference in shut-outs with 11.
The Aces of Evansville were able to put themselves on the board following a foul by Whitney Blunt in the goalie box during the 35th minute. Bronwyn Boswell converted on the penalty kick for Evansville for her eighth goal of the season.
With the foul by Blunt resulting in the Panthers having to continue the match a player short, Tiffany Oliver would come into the game at keeper for the Panthers for her first collegiate action of her career.
Shortly after the penalty kick, following a miscommunication in the box, Montana Portenier of Evansville was able to find the opening and score her second goal of the season to put the Aces up 2-0 with 10 minutes left in the first half.
Facing a 2-0 deficit to open the second half, the Panthers would put up a strong defensive effort but were unable to find a goal to start a comeback.
In the 58th minute, Evansville would put up their third goal of the match as Nicki Baham would score a header for her fourth goal of the season.
For the Panthers, freshman Sarah Brandt would the lead the team in shots with three.
The loss puts the Panthers conference record at 1-3-1 as they head into their final match against Missouri State on Thursday, October 30th. The match will be UNI's final regular season home match and will be Senior Night for the Panthers. Kick-off is set for 5:00 p.m. at the Cedar Valley Soccer Complex in Waterloo.
