WATERLOO, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team was able to send off six graduating seniors on Thursday with a victory as UNI closed out the regular season with a win over Missouri State by a final score of 3-2.
The Panthers opened up the scoring on Thursday night as Sarah Brandt found Brady Clark streaking down the middle of the field where Clark was able to tap a goal past the keeper in the 27th minute. It was Clark's team leading fourth goal of the season.
10 minutes later, during the 37th minute, Clark found junior Maggie Riley on a cross as Riley was able to finish the play and bury her third goal of the season.
UNI took the momentum into the second half as the Panthers started off with another strong opening 10 minutes. Senior forward, Charlotte Jones found herself in open space and sent a booming shot into the net from 25 yards out for her second goal of the season.
With Jones's goal, the Panthers matched their season's game-high for goals and found themselves with a 3-0 lead.
The Bears of Missouri State would respond, however, and put the pressure on the Panthers as they would score two goals in a matter of two minutes as Brooke Zimmerman and Millie Kingsbury were able to score their third and first goals of the season.
With 15 minutes left to play, UNI would tighten up the defense, lead by senior Caitlyn Fuller, and keep MSU out of the goal and hold on for the victory.
With the win, the Panthers improved to 2-3-1 in conference play and will look to Sunday to take their shot in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament.
UNI will host an opening round game on Sunday, November 2nd, at the Cedar Valley Soccer complex.
Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. as the Panthers will have a rematch against Missouri State. Admission for the match is free.
