
UNI Swimming & Diving Defeats SDSU

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa swimming and diving team defeated the South Dakota State Jackrabbits this afternoon at the Glen F. Henry Pool in Cedar Falls.
Nine freshmen made their regular season debut today against the Jackrabbits for coaches Doug Humphrey and Lori Meierbachtol.

- Rachel Siebenaller (Germantown, Wis.) - Free/Fly
200 Medley Relay
The quartet of Aftin Phyfe, Veronica Herrmann, Taylor Ostrowkski, and Molly Lembezeder took home second place in the 200 Medley Relay. The Panthers finished with a time of 1:50.28, falling just behind South Dakota State, who had a finals time of 1:50.24.
1000 Freestyle
In the 1000 Freestyle, Maya Appleton and Meredith Gorman both scored points for UNI, taking third and fourth place, respectively. Appleton ended with a time of 11:06.34 and Gorman finished with 11:07.62. South Dakota State's Kendra Hinton won the event, ending with a time of 10:56.16, a full nine seconds in front of Gretchen Frick of SDSU who took second place.
200 Freestyle
The Panthers dominated this event, with three swimmers in the top four finishers. Rachel Siebenaller took first place, finishing with a time of 1:55.10. Sierra Sachtjen finished with a 1:57.95 for second place, and Elise Drewsen scored two more points for UNI with her fourth place finish in 1:59.31.
100 Backstroke
Aftin Phyfe was the lone point scorer in this event for UNI, finishing in 1:00.94 for second place behind Sam Prasher of SDSU. Maria Holmes took sixth place, racing in 1:04.06.
100 Breaststroke
In the 100 Yard Breastroke, Veronica Herrmann scored third place with a time of 1:08.44. Stephanie Paape and Jill Georgen finished in fifth and sixth, respectively.
200 Butterfly
Taylor Ostrowski and Stephanie Jackson finished first and second place, respectively. Ostrowski took it home with a finals time of 2:09.63 and Jackson was right behind her, with a time of 2:11.55. Riley Morgan finished sixth place in the event.
50 Freestyle
In the first meet of her career, freshman Molly Lembezeder fell .04 seconds short of the school record in the 50 Freestyle, taking first place in 23.77 seconds. Teammate Aftin Phyfe owns the record, with a time of 23.73, which she accomplished last season. The Panthers dominated, finishing with the top four times. Miki Freese, Rachel Siebenaller, and Elise Drewsen rounded out the top four.
1 Meter Diving
Juniors Sarah Kemp and Allie Bey finished first and second in the Women 1 Meter Diving, with scores of 239.39 and 238.35, respectively. Freshman Jessica Misra and Hannah Brummel finished fifth and sixth place.
100 Freestyle
UNI placed three girls in the top four of the 100 Freestyle. Molly Lembezeder continued her outstanding day, with another near-record breaking performance. Lembezeder finished first place with a time of 52.39 seconds, which ranks third on the all-time list. Elise Drewsen finished in second place with a time of 55.15 seconds and Miki Freeze was fourth place in 55.35 seconds
200 Backstroke
In the 200 Yard Backstroke, Sierra Sachtjen was the top finisher for UNI with a time of 2:12.56, finishing in second place. Aftin Phyfe took fourth place in 2:13.05.
200 Breaststroke
The Panthers had three of the top six finishers in this event, with Veronica Herman finishing in third place with a time of 2:30.05. Jill Georgen and Stephanie Paage finished fifth and sixth place, respectively.
500 Freestyle
UNI had the top finisher in the 500 Yard Freestyle with Rachel Siebenaller blowing away the competition with a time of 5:12.64. Siebenaller ended the race a full nine seconds before second place Julia Bodnaruk of SDSU. Meridith Gorman and Maya Appleton finished fourth and fifth place.
100 Butterfly
Taylor Ostrowski and Stephanie Jackson were the top two finishers in the 100 Butterly, with times of 1:00.37 and 1:01.08. Lindsey Phelps took fifth place with a time of 1:01.72.
3 Meter Diving
Sarah Kemp scored her second title of the day, winning the 3 Meter Diving with 243.37 points, .07 points ahead of teammate Allie Bey. Jessica Misra took fifth place with 202.35 points.
200 IM
Stephanie Jackson and Tayor Ostrowski were the top finishers for the Panthers in the 200 IM. Jackson ended the race in third place with a time of 2:15.41 and Ostrowski finished in 2:15.63.
400 Freestyle Relay
The team of Molly Lembezeder, Rachel Siebenaller, Miki Freeze, and Aftin Phyfe won the 400 Freestyle in 3:33.41, finishing six seconds faster then second place South Dakota State. Sierra Sachtjen, Elise Drewsen, LIndsey Phelps and Ashley Nelson took fourth place with a time of 3:43.65.
What's Next
The Panthers will be back in the Glen F. Henry Pool on October 25th at 1 p.m. when they will play host to the South Dakota Coyotes.
