UNI Picks up Second Win in a Row, defeats Evansville 64-56

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team picked up its second win in a row, defeating Evansville 64-56 inside the McLeod Center. The Panthers are now 6-8 overall and 2-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Stephanie Davison reached double figures for the second game in a row, leading the team with 15 points. Brittni Donaldson added 12 points and Brooke Brown came away with a career-high 13 boards.
UNI jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead over Evansville off baskets from Hannah Schonhardt and Stephanie Davison while holding the Purple Aces scoreless heading into the first media timeout. Evansville scored its first points of the night at the 15:30 mark in the first half when Kat Taylor ran into the lane for a layup.
Davison knocked down two free throws with 14:27 left in the half, but then both teams were held scoreless until the 10:23 mark when Davison drained a three-pointer to make the score 11-2. Evansville scored just its third point of the game and first point since its first basket after Mallory Ladd hit one of her two free throws.
Evansville cut the UNI lead to seven points with less than five minutes left in the half, making the score 17-11 off a layup from Khristian Hart. The Purple Aces hit a three with less than a minute remaining, but Davison was able to sneak another layup to send UNI into halftime with a 27-19 lead.
UNI jumped out to a 10-point lead with 16:39 left in the game after Jen Keitel notched a put-back layup to make the score 32-22. Amber Sorenson then buried a three-pointer at the 14:34 mark to extend the UNI lead to 39-25.
The Panthers took a 17-point lead in the game when Brittni Donaldson hit a three-pointer to give UNI a 50-33 advantage with 10:29 remaining in the game. Evansville was then able to whittle the UNI lead back down to single digits after going on a 10-0 run to make the score 57-49 with 2:03 on the clock.
Evansville cut it down to an eight-point lead for the Panthers with less than a minute to play, forcing the Purple Aces to start fouling. Schonhardt and Brown were then able to hit four clutch free throws at the end, to seal a 64-56 victory

UNI held Evansville to just 19 points in the first half, its lowest point total in the first half this season.
Stephanie Davison reached double figures for the second game in a row and the eighth time this season. The sophomore finished with 15 points, shooting 5-for-10 from the field.
Brittni Donaldson reached double figures for the second game in a row and has knocked down two or more three-pointers for the third game in a row. She notched 12 points against Evansville.
Brooke Brown notched a career-high 13 rebounds against Evansville. Her previous career high was seven, set against North Dakota State this season.
UNI held Evansville's leading scorer Sara Dickey to just five points tonight. She was averaging 18.8 coming into tonight's game.
