Panthers Defeated by Sycamores, 2-1

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The Northern Iowa Panther women's soccer team played host to the Indiana State Sycamores Sunday afternoon. The match marked the fifth conference match of the season for the Panthers.
Head coach James Price's team struck first in the match. During the 27th minute Maggie Riley launched a perfect corner kick to senior Allison Brees. Brees headed the corner into the back of the net for her second goal of the season.
Both defenses began to clamp down after the Panther goal. UNI took their 1-0 lead into the half and kept their offensive attack as the second half began but the Sycamores tied the match in the 64th minute. Indiana State's Taylor Hancock sent a through pass to Abby Reed for her 8th goal of the season.
Fourteen minutes later in the 78th minute Sycamore Natalie Vaught sent a crossing pass to Sydney Loesing who beat the keeper for the game-winning goal.
The Panthers fired 12 shots during the match. Allie Brees led UNI with three attempts. Claire Clark, Caitlyn Fuller and Maddie Welch each recorded two shot attempts. Sam Copley, Sarah McHugh and Annie Dale each recorded one shot. UNI kicked seven corners while the Sycamores kicked four. Indiana State goalkeeper Brittany San Roman collected the win, it was her 7th victory of the season.
UNI will be back in action Wed., Oct. 23, at 7 p.m. when it will take on St. Ambrose.

- Allison Brees' goal was the third of her career for the senior defender.
- Midfielder Maddie Welch has attempted 8 shots in the past 6 games.
- Sophomore Annie Dale now has seven shot attempts in her last 6 games.
