Panthers Take Down Evansville 3-0

EVANSVILLE, Ind.- The University of Northern Iowa volleyball team swept the Evansville Purple Aces 3-0 on Friday night in Indiana. The Panthers are now 5-1 in MVC play while Evansville is 1-6.
Leigh Pudwill and Macy Ubben led the Panthers with 12 kills each and Ubben had a .550 hitting percentage. Kinsey Caldwell tallied 36 assists and Amie Held recorded 21 digs for the Panthers.
The Panthers got out to a dominate 11-1 start in the first set. They continued to dominate the set and held Evansville to only ten points as they defeated the Purple Aces 25-10.
UNI took early control of the second set as well. The Panthers had the 8-3 lead at the first timeout. Kills by Eryca Hingtgen, Pudwill and Ubben helped UNI increase their lead to eight at 15-7. The Panthers cruised through the rest of the set and won it 25-15 to take the 2-0 match lead.
With the third set tied at 6-6, back-to-back kills from Evansville gave them the 8-6 lead. They continued to increase their lead until they led by five at 17-12. A kill by Pudwill in the next play sparked a 6-1 comeback run by the Panthers to tie the set up at 18-18. A kill by Caldwell in the next play gave UNI the 19-18 lead, but an attack by the Panthers in the next play allowed Evansville to tie it at 19-19. A kill by Hingtgen helped UNI go on a 6-2 run which allowed them to win the set 25-21 and the match 3-0.
The Panthers will return to action tomorrow when they take on Southern Illinois at 7 p.m. in Carbondale.
