
WBB Defeats Bradley In MVC Clash, 77-72

Jacqui Kalin and Jen Keitel led the team in scoring with 23 and 19 points respectively, while Brooke Brown added 11 points. Kalin led the team in rebounds with six with Hannah Schonhardt, Brown and Brittni Donaldson added five each.
UNI went into the first media timeout with an 8-6 lead with 15:49 left in the first half. Four different players were able to get points on the scoreboard with Schonhardt, Brown, Donaldson and Keitel all notching baskets.
Jess McDowell hit a three-pointer to make the score 15-14, but Katie Yohn quickly answered with a jump shot to give the Braves a 16-15 lead. Amber Kirschbaum drove through the lane for a lay-up to give UNI a 17-16 lead with 11:07 left in the half, followed by the UNI defense grabbing a defensive rebound on the next play to keep Bradley at bay.
Keitel shot 3-4 and had eight points during the first 13 minutes of play; including a 10-foot jump shot that gave UNI a 25-24 lead with 7:08 left on the clock. Kalin gave UNI a four point lead with 4:16 left in the half off an open three-pointer, making the score 32-28.
UNI reached their largest lead of the half when Brown was able to put down two free throws to make the score 36-30. Katie O'Leary hit two jump shots to cut the Panther lead to two points, but Kalin answered with two of her own to keep the Panther lead at six points with a score of 40-34 in UNI's favor with 1:45 left in the half.
The Panthers went into halftime with a one point lead after Bradley went on a 5-0 run to end the half, making the score 40-39. UNI shot 56 percent from the field in the first half with nine lead changes during the 20 minutes of play.
Kalin opened the second half by scoring five points in the first 1:15, blowing through the Bradley defense for a lay-up and hitting another three-pointer to make the score 44-39. Bradley was able to cut the UNI lead to one point with 15:37 left in the game off a jumper from O'Leary followed by a made free throw to make the score 47-46.
UNI and Bradley hit back-to-back threes to keep the Panther lead at one point when both Brown and Kelsey Budd hit big three-pointers for their teams to make the score 52-51 in UNI's favor. Stephanie Davison hit the third three in a row with 13:23 on the clock followed by a jumper from Sharnae Lamar to give UNI a six point lead and score of 57-51.
McDowell hit her second three-pointer of the game to give the Panthers a seven point lead, making the score 60-53. Lamar kept the UNI lead alive after dicing through the Bradley defense for a close jump shot, giving UNI a 62-55 lead with 8:23 left in the game.
Keitel continued her strong performance in the paint with 6:29 left in the game after Kalin snuck a pass through the Bradley defense for a lay-up to Keitel. Keitel grabbed a big defensive board on the next play, followed by her own jumper to give UNI a 10 point lead, making the score 68-58.
O'Leary cut the Panther lead to eight points off a driving lay-up with 2:00 minutes left in the game, making the score 71-63. After a blocked shot on the Panthers offensive end, O'Leary struck again with 1:05 left on the clock with a three-pointer to cut the lead to 71-66.
Kalin extended the UNI lead with two clutch free throws with less than 30 seconds left in the game, making the score 73-66. After a quick lay-up from Shronda Butts to cut the UNI lead again, Kalin was fouled and dropped two more free throws to make the score 75-68 with 21 seconds left on the clock.
The Panthers finished the game with two more free throws from Kalin, clutching a 77-72 win over the Bradley Braves to improve their MVC record to 3-2.
