TERRE HAUTE, Ind.- The University of Northern Iowa volleyball team got the 3-0 sweep in dominate fashion over the Indiana State Sycamores in Terre Haute, Indiana, Saturday night. UNI is now 3-0 in Missouri Valley Conference play.
Shelby Kintzel led the Panthers with 12 kills and Amy Braun followed with 11 kills. Molly Turk notched 35 assists and Candice Burke led the way for UNI with 13 digs.
With the score tied at 7-7 in the first set, a service ace by Amy Braun and an attack error by Indiana State in the next two plays gave UNI the 9-7 lead, and they did not look back from there. The Panthers held the lead the rest of the set and won it 25-14.
The Panthers had the 4-3 lead in the second set when an attack error by UNI allowed Indiana State to tie it up at 4-4. That was the closest Indiana State was going to get to the Panthers in this set. A kill by Molly Turk in the next play gave UNI the 5-4 lead and they cruised from there. The Panthers won the set 25-9.
Kills by Amy Braun, Krista DeGeest and Shelby Kintzel helped the Panthers grab the early 6-2 lead. UNI went on a 4-2 run to make it 10-4 at an Indiana State timeout. UNI continued this pace the rest of the set and the Sycamores could not keep up. The Panthers won the set 25-12 and the match 3-0.
The Panthers will return to the court on Friday when they host Missouri State at 7:00 p.m. at the McLeod Center
