
UNI Volleyball Gets Fourth Straight MVC Win

CEDAR FALLS, Ia.- The University of Northern Iowa volleyball team got their fourth straight MVC win by defeating Missouri State 3-0 in the McLeod Center Friday night. UNI is now 4-0 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Shelby Kintzel led the Panthers with 12 kills and Megan Lehman and Krista DeGeest followed with 11 kills each. Molly Turk recorded 41 assists for the Panthers and Candice Burke notched 15 digs for UNI.
In the first set, UNI jumped out to an early 5-2 lead at a media timeout. The Panthers kept this pace up and went on a 5-3 run to make it 11-5. Missouri State could not keep up with UNI, and the Panthers held the lead the whole set and won it 25-19.
The beginning of the second set was back and forth for the two teams. With the score tied at 5-5, a block by Shelby Kintzel and Megan Lehman sparked a 4-0 run by the Panthers to make it 9-5. UNI took off from there and cruised through the rest of the set. UNI won the second set 25-15.
With the score tied at 3-3 in the third set, a ball handling error by Missouri State gave the Panthers the 4-3 lead and helped them on go on a 7-2 run to make it 11-5. Missouri State tried to answer, but could not match the Panther's run. UNI cruised to a 25-15 win in the set to help them win the match 3-0.
The Panthers will return to the court tomorrow night when they host Wichita State in the McLeod at 8:30 p.m. The 2001 UNI volleyball team will be inducted into the Hall of Fame tomorrow morning and will be recognized at the match tomorrow night.
