
Panthers Get Sweep Over Wichita State

WICHITA, Kan.- The University of Northern Iowa volleyball team got the 3-0 sweep over the Wichita State Shockers Friday night in Wichita, Kansas. This is the 11th conference win for the Panthers, and they are in first place in the Valley.
Macy Ubben led the Panthers with 16 kills, and Shelby Kintzel lead the way with a .389 hitting percentage. Molly Turk notched 39 assists and Amy Braun had 13 digs.
With the score tied at 5-5 in the first set, an attack error by Wichita State sparked a 5-1 run to give the Panthers the 10-6 lead. UNI expanded their lead to five at 21-16, but the Wichita State brought it back to within one at 23-22. A kill by Ubben made it 24-22 Panthers, but the Shockers answered with a kill of their own in the next play to make it 24-23. Krista DeGeest got the kill in the next play, and the Panthers won the set 25-23.
The second set started out close for the teams. At the first timeout of the set, Wichita State had the 9-8 lead. An attack error by the Shockers helped the Panthers tie it up at 9-9. A kill by Megan Lehman in the next play helped UNI go on a 9-4 run to make it 18-13. The Panthers kept up this pace through the rest of the set and won it 25-19.
Wichita State had the 4-1 lead in the third set when the Panthers went on an impressive 7-0 run to give them the 8-4 lead. The Shockers brought it back to within two at 14-12, but it was not enough. UNI held them off and got the 25-19 set win and the 3-0 match win.
The Panthers return to the court tomorrow in Springfield, Missouri, when they take on Missouri State at 7:00 p.m.
