
Missouri State Deals Panthers Tough Loss

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.- The University of Northern Iowa volleyball team suffered a tough 3-1 loss to the Missouri State Bears Saturday night on the road. This is only the second conference loss for the Panthers this season.
Shelby Kintzel and Macy Ubben led the way for the Panthers with 13 kills each. Molly Turk recorded 43 assists and Candice Burke notched 18 digs for the Panthers.
With the score tied at 9-9 in the first set, a kill by Ubben helped the Panthers take go on a 3-0 run to take the slim 12-9 lead. Missouri State fought their way back though and tied it up several more times in the set. With the score tied for the last time at 23-23, kills by Ubben and Megan Lehman in the next two plays gave the Panthers the 25-23 set win.
Missouri State had the early lead in the second set. At the first timeout of the set, the Bears had a slim three point lead over the Panthers at 12-9. UNI was not going to give in easy and fought their way back to tie it up at 16-16. Missouri State got a kill in the next plat to give them the 17-16 lead. The Panthers could not come back this time though and Missouri State held the lead the rest of the set and won it 25-23.
The Bears had the momentum going into the third set, and they took advantage of it. They built their lead up to six over the Panthers at 16-10. The Panthers were not finished though and kills by Kintzel, Lehman and Ubben helped UNI to fight back and tie it up at 23-23. Missouri State took advantage of attack errors by UNI in the next two plays though and won the set 25-23.
In the fourth set, the Panthers stayed with the Bears throughout the beginning of the set, but Missouri State eventually broke away. They were too much for UNI in that set and they won it 25-16 to win the match 3-1.
The Panthers return home next weekend when they take on Drake Friday at 7:00 p.m.
