Panthers Finish Competition at MVC Championship

CARBONDALE, Ill. – The University of Northern Iowa swimming and diving team finished competition at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championships with 372.5 points. The Panthers took fifth place in the tournament.
Chelsea Hartman swam the 1,650 freestyle in 17:07.94, breaking the school record previously held by Hartman herself. She finished in fifth place. The previous record was 17:08.09. While swimming the 1,650, Hartman also broke the school record for the 1,000 freestyle. The previous record was 10:22.04, Hartman swam her record breaking time in 10:19.24.
Bethany Olson finished in fifth place in the 3-meter dive. She scored 239.90 points to take fifth place.
Natalie Johnson finished the 200 backstroke in tenth place. She clocked in with a time of 2:08.02. Teammate Jody Petersen followed shortly behind with a time of 2:10.39, finishing in 11th.
In the 100 freestyle, Stephanie Frederick took ninth place. She clocked in with a time of 52.68.
Caryn Knight took seventh in the 200 breaststroke. She finished with a time of 2:25.52.
Taking 11th in the 200 butterfly, Kayla McCormick finished with a time of 2:11.87
The 400 freestyle relay team of Stephanie Frederick, Josie Itzen, Jaime Pearson and Rebecca Ortmann finished with a time of 3:32.63. The quartet took fifth place for the Panthers.
This marks the end for many of the Panthers this season. Diver Bethany Olson will continue practicing as she prepares for NCAA diving zones. The diving zones are scheduled for March 17-19.
