Two School Records Scored on Day 2 of MVC Championships

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The University of Northern Iowa finished day 2 of competition at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championships. The Panthers sit in fifth place with 262.5 points heading into the last day of competition. On the day, two school records were broken.
The 200 medley relay team started the night off strong by finishing in a time of 1:47.51, a new school record. The quartet of Natalie Johnson, Ashley Mangrich, Jaime Pearson and Stephanie Frederick finished in fifth place for the Panthers. The previous school record was 1:48.42.
Jaime Pearson swam a school record breaking time of 57.50 in the prelims of the 100 butterfly. She returned for the finals and took seventh place, clocking in with a time of 57.63. Teammate Kayla McCormick swam in 59.33, to take 11th place.
Caryn Knight finished in fourth place in the 100 breaststroke. She clocked in with a time of 1:05.63. Ashley Mangrich(1:087.34) and Sarah Hedeen(1:08.64) took 13th and 14th, respectively, in the 100 breaststroke.
Chelsea Hartman swam a 1:55.57 200 freestyle time to take eighth place for the Panthers.
In the 400 IM, Josie Itzen finished with a time of 4:38.62. She took tenth in the event.
Jamie Pearson finished with a time of 59.27, taking ninth place.
The Panthers will finish competition tomorrow, with prelims beginning at 10 a.m. and finals set to begin at 4 p.m.
