Panthers Outlast Missouri State in MVC Action, 80-69

With 2:27 remaining and the Panthers leading 68-67, Rachel Madrigal hit a three that gave UNI a four-point edge. UNI came up with a stop on the defensive end, and the Panthers finished 9-of-10 from the free-throw line in the final two minutes to seal the victory.
K.K. Armstrong added 12 points, and Erin Brocka finished with seven points, seven rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocked shots.
MSU built an early 20-10 advantage, shooting 50 percent while the Panthers connected on just two of their first 13 attempts.
UNI went on a run of its own, outscoring MSU 9-2 over a span of 1:46 to cut the Lady Bear lead to 22-19 with 9:22 left in the first half.
MSU maintained at least a three-point lead over the next four minutes, and a pair of free throws from Garrison with 4:31 on the clock gave the Lady Bears a 36-28 advantage.
Mercedees Morgan and Kalin knocked down jumpers to cut the UNI deficit to four, and Madrigal hit her second of three threes to pull the Panthers within one, 36-35 at the three-minute mark.
A layup from Tia Mays put the Lady Bear lead back at three, but Kalin knocked down a three from the top of the key to tie the game, 38-38 with 1:22 remaining.
Boeck scored with 47 seconds left to give UNI its first lead since 5-4 and send the Panthers into the break leading 40-38.
MSU scored first in the second half to tie the game at 40, but Katelin Oney hit a jumper and Boeck connected on a layup to give the Panthers a four-point advantage.
The Lady Bears chipped away at the UNI lead, and a pair of free throws from Boshe brought the score to 45-44 with 14:49 remaining.
Madrigal hit a jumper, and Armstrong converted a three-point play to give UNI a six-point lead, 50-44 with 13:29 remaining.
The Panthers maintained the lead until Garrison hit a three and Jasmine Malone scored on a layup on consecutive trips to tie the game, 55-55 with 9:14 remaining.
Kalin responded with a layup on UNI's ensuing possession, and Morgan scored following a defensive stop to return the UNI lead to four.
The Lady Bears answered with their own four-point run to tie the game for the fourth time, 59-59 with 7:38 on the clock.
Armstrong knocked down a three on the Panthers' next trip down the floor to return the lead to UNI, 62-59.
The UNI lead stayed between one and three points until Madrigal's three with 2:27 to play put the Panthers in front 71-67.
UNI held the Lady Bears to a pair of free throws the rest of the way, and the Panthers converted nine of 10 free-throw attempts to secure the victory.
UNI shot 23-of-53 (43.4 percent) from the floor, including 9-of-19 (47.4 percent) from three-point range. The Panthers were 25-of-29 (86.2 percent) from the free-throw line.
MSU held a 40-28 rebounding advantage, turning 17 offensive rebounds into 13 second-chance points. The Panthers converted nine offensive rebounds into seven second-chance points.
UNI committed just 12 turnovers, while MSU turned the ball over 17 times.
