The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team earned its third conference win today with a 4-3 victory over the Evansville Purple Aces. The Panthers move to 10-8 and 3-2 in Missouri Valley Conference play. This victory marked head coach, Sachin Kirtane, 100th career win for the UNI Panthers.
The Panthers were able to claim the doubles point, winning two of the three matches. UNI's duo of Laia Gonzalez-Garrido were able to do what they do best as they edged out Kate Chybowski and Dora Kotsiou 9-8. The Panthers secured the doubles point as senior Sampada Kanade and sophomore Ashton Schwerin 8-6, in No. 2 doubles.
In singles play Laia Gonzalez-Garrido won 6-7, 7-6, 6-1 over Dora Kotsiou in the No. 2 singles match, while Kanade won over Schwerin 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 3 singles match. Jessica Kunzelmann cruised past Pin Sorensen 6-4, 6-1 in No. 4 singles to secure the victory for the Panthers.
The Panthers will wrap up the conference schedule as they return home for two matches this coming weekend. The Panthers face Illinois State Saturday and the Bradley Braves Sunday.
