
Panthers Post 85-66 Senior Day Win Over Wichita State

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in an 85-66 win over Wichita State Saturday afternoon in the McLeod Center. The win puts the Panthers (14-15, 10-8) as the No. 5 seed in next week's Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.
Five Panthers scored in double figures for UNI, led by 19 points from K.K. Armstrong finished with 16 points, and Kim Wypiszynski tallied 14 for UNI. Danielle Wubbens each had four assists for the Panthers.
Wichita State (16-13, 8-10) was led by 14 points from Jazimen Gordan and 13 points from Chynna Turner. Jessica Diamond added 10 points for WSU, and Morgan Boyd finished with seven points and seven rebounds.
UNI made 10 of its first 14 shots to build a 23-7 lead with 12:22 left in the first half. Brocka hit a three at 6:12 to give the Panthers a 20-point advantage, 36-16. The Shockers chipped away, and a three from Marisah Hendersen cut the Panther lead to 47-34 with 42 seconds on the clock. Boeck made a pair of free throws with three seconds left to send UNI into the break in front, 49-34.
Wypiszynski made a pair of free throws at 10:07 to put the Panthers up 63-42. UNI would go on to lead by as many as 27 points, and it maintained a 20-point cushion until Michelle Price made a pair of free throws with seven seconds left to bring the final score to 85-66.
The Panthers shot 26-of-54 (48.1 percent) from the floor, including 10-of-20 (50 percent) from three-point range. UNI shot 23-of-29 (79.3 percent) from the free-throw line.
Wichita State shot 19-of-53 (35.8 percent) from the floor, including 5-of-14 (35.7 percent) from behind the arc. The Shockers were 23-of-31 (74.2 percent) from the free-throw line.
UNI held a 38-31 advantage on the glass. Both teams finished with 10 second-chance points.
The Panthers recognized its five seniors – Kim Wypiszynski and Rachel Yeggy – prior to the game.
UNI returns to action on Friday when they play fourth-seeded Bradley in the quarterfinal of the MVC Tournament in St. Charles, Mo.
