
Panthers Fall to Nebraska in NCAA Tournament

MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team could not keep pace with No. 1 seeded Nebraska, falling to the Huskers 83-44 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Danielle Wubbens finished with seven points for the Panthers.
Kelsey Griffin led Nebraska (31-1) with 22 points.
The Panthers kept things close early, trailing just 20-18 midway through the period, but UNI was outscored 20-9 through the rest of the half to go into the break trailing, 40-27. Nebraska's lead came courtesy of 7-of-14 three-point shooting and eight first-half steals.
The Huskers opened the second half on a 9-2 run, taking a 49-29 lead at 17:32. UNI cut the NU lead to 17, but the Huskers went on a 19-2 run to extend its lead to 62-34 with 11:04 to play.
The Panthers were unable to cut the Nebraska lead to less than 22 the rest of the way.
UNI shot 17-of-58 (29.3 percent) from the floor, including 2-of-23 (8.7 percent) from three-point range. The Panthers were 8-of-11 (72.7 percent) from the free-throw line.
Nebraska shot 42.6 percent (26-of-61) from the floor, including 10-of-20 (50 percent) from behind the arc. The Huskers finished 21-of-25 (84 percent) from the free-throw line.
The loss ends the Panthers' season and their first trip to the NCAA Tournament.
