Panthers Fall to No. 7 Hawkeyes

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa wrestling team suffered a 39-0 set back at the hands of the No. 7-ranked University of Iowa Hawkeyes Thursday night in a sold out West Gym. After Iowa picked up a major decision at 133 pounds, Aaron Senzee fell in a close 3-0 match to No. 13 Mark Ballweg. After two scoreless periods, Ballweg registered a takedown with just under two minutes remaining and rode Senzee out the rest of the period to earn the 3-0 win. Iowa picked up a pin at 149 pounds before David Bonin suffered an 8-4 defeat to No. 7-ranked Derek St. John. Aaron Janssen picked up another close win at 165 pounds, scoring a 4-0 decision over Nick Pickerell at 165 pounds. After a major decision victory for the Hawkeyes at 174 pounds, Ryan Loder fell 4-2 to No. 6 Grant Gambrall at 184 pounds. No. 12 Luke Lofthouse then scored a major decision win for Iowa at 197 pounds to put Iowa up 30-0 with two matches remaining. No. 17 Blake Rasing scored an escape in the third period and gained a riding point to earn a 2-0 decision over Christian Brantley at the heavyweight slot. This marks Brantley's first dual loss of the season. Iowa sealed the dual with pin from No. 1 ranked Matt McDonough at 125 pounds.
