CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team shot a season-high 52.2 percent from the floor and reached its highest point total since 2001 in a 99-67 win over Evansville in Missouri Valley Conference action Saturday afternoon in the McLeod Center.
Twelve different Panthers scored, five of them reaching double digits. Freshman Kim Wypiszynski added 11 and 10, respectively. Erin Brocka finished with 10 rebounds and five assists, helping UNI finish with a season-high 23 assists.
Jordan Lewis led Evansville (3-11, 0-3 MVC) with 14 points, and Meagan Collins added 21.
UNI made its first five shots, setting the tone for a first half where it shot 19-of-35 (54.3 percent) from the floor to take a 53-27 lead into the break. Boeck was a perfect 6-of-6 from the floor in the first period, tallying 15 first-half points.
The Panther offense stayed hot in the second half, connecting on 17-of-34 (50 percent) attempts. Wypiszynski made a pair of free throws at 15:39 that gave UNI a 64-33 lead, and the Panthers held at least a 30-point advantage the rest of the way. The Panthers led by as many as 40 points on the way to claiming its largest win of the season.
UNI finished 36-of-69 (52.2 percent) from the floor, including 7-of-19 (36.8 percent) from three-point range. The Panthers were 20-of-21 (95.2 percent) from the free-throw line.
Evansville finished 28-of-57 (49.1 percent) from the floor, including 4-of-14 (28.6 percent) from behind the arc. UE shot 7-of-10 (70 percent) from the free-throw line.
The Panthers held a 40-25 rebounding advantage. UNI turned 15 offensive rebounds into 15 second-chance points. UNI gave up jus six offensive boards, which the Purple Aces turned into two second-chance points.
UNI's 99 points were the most scored by the Panthers since topping No. 13 Missouri State 99-80 on Feb. 18, 2001.
The Panthers return to action on Jan. 15 when they play at Bradley.
