Wildcats Take Down Panthers in Season Opener

Des Moines – The Kansas State Wildcats defeated the UNI Panthers 5-2 on Saturday afternoon. Kansas State started out the afternoon right, earning the doubles point. Talia Jang-Stewart and Sampada Kanade fell in the No. 1 doubles match to Kansas State's Antea Huljey and Nina Sertic 8-1. In the No. 2 spot, UNI's Sampada Kanade took down Kansas State's Petra Chuda 6-7(7-3), 1-6, (10-3) in the No. 3 spot. Kunzelmann fell in her No. 4 match to K-State's Nina Sertic 6-3, 6-2. Stefannia Sampaio, a freshman, fell to Maryna Chumak 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 5 singles match. K-State's Vieira finished off the Panthers with a win over UNI's Jang-Stewart 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 6 match.
Head Coach Sachin Kirtane had this to say after the match, “It was a really hard fought match, but it was a good way to start the season against a solid team and hopefully we can keep on improving.”
The Panthers are back in action on Feb. 12 as they take on Gustavus Adolphus at the Black Hawk Tennis Club at 1:00 p.m.
