UNI Takes Down North Dakota

The UNI Panthers women's tennis team (2-1) won its second straight dual match of the 2010 spring season as they defeated North Dakota (0-3) 5-2 on Friday. The Panthers improved to 2-0 at the Black Hawk Tennis Club, winning their second home match of the weekend.
UNI dropped the first doubles match as Sampada Kanade and Talia Jang-Stewart fell in No. 1 doubles to UND's Hallie Welk and Erin Kappers 8-5. UND secured the doubles point in the No. 2 doubles match as Katie Callison and Emma Larson took down UNI's Jessica Kunzelmann and Stefannia Sampaio 8-1. The Panthers No. 3 doubles pairs took care of business as Katy Delagardelle and Phoebe Walker took down the duo of Chelsey Galipeau and Megan Sween 8-4.
The Panthers did not look back from that point as singles play began. Sampada Kanade, competing at the No. 3 spot, was victorious in her match versus Hallie Welk, winning 1-6, 6-1, (6-2). Sophomore Jessica Kunzelmann followed the lead of her teammates, defeating Emma Larson in No. 4 singles 6-3, 6-2. The freshman Stefannia Sampaio continued her solid play as she defeated Megan Sween 6-2, 7-5. UND's Chelsey Galipeau topped UNI's Katy Delagardelle 6-2, 6-2 in No. 6 singles.
The Panthers' next match will be Sunday, Feb. 14 at the Black Hawk Tennis Club as they face the Western Illinois Leathernecks. Match time is set for 10 a.m.
