
UNI Rally Falls Short in 74-62 Loss at Bradley.

PEORIA, Ill. – The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team cut a 23-point Bradley lead to seven but was never able to completely close the gap in a 74-62 loss to the Braves Friday night at Lorene Ramsey Gym.
K.K. Armstrong, Kim Wypiszynski finished with 13. Wypiszysnki led UNI with seven rebounds and four assists.
Katie Yohn scored 18 points, all on three-point shots, to lead the Braves (7-8, 3-2 MVC). Renee Frericks and Raisa Taylor each scored 13. Sonya Harris finished with 10 rebounds for BU.
Leading 8-7, Bradley scored 20 straight points to build a 28-7 advantage with 7:35 left in the first half. Kim Wypiszynski ended a seven-minute scoring drought for the Panthers when she connected for a three-point play at 7:15.
UNI chipped away to cut the Bradley lead to 30-19, but the Braves scored seven straight points to stretch their lead to 37-19 with 42 seconds left in the first half. Wypiszynski hit a jumper in the paint at the buzzer to bring the halftime score to 37-21 in favor of the Braves.
UNI scored first out of the break, but the Braves scored the next six points to reclaim a 20-point lead, 43-23 with 17:11 remaining.
Bradley led by as many as 23 points, 56-33 with 12:08 on the clock. The Panthers chipped away, and at 7:10 Jacqui Kalin hit a three to cut the UNI deficit to 11, 58-47.
Bradley scored the next four points to put its lead back at 15, 62-47. UNI continued to claw back in the game, however, and at 1:38 Kalin drove and scored to pull the Panthers within 10, 68-58. UNI elected to foul, and after Armstrong rebounded the missed free throw, Kalin drained a three on the break to pull the Panthers within seven, 68-61 with 1:21 on the clock.
UNI was never able to get any closer however, as the Braves finished 6-of-8 from the free-throw line in the final 1:06 to bring the final score to 74-62.
UNI shot 21-of-56 (37.5 percent) from the floor, including 5-of-16 (31.3 percent) from three-point range. The Panthers were 15-of-16 (93.8 percent) from the free-throw line.
The Braves finished 27-of-53 (50.9 percent) including 10-of-18 (55.6 percent) from behind the arc. Bradley shot 10-of-15 (66.7 percent) from the free-throw line.
UNI turned Bradley's 24 turnovers into 28 points, and the Braves converted the Panthers' 20 turnovers into 23 points.
The Panthers return to action on Friday when they play at Drake.
