
Panthers Dominate UMKC, 6-1

WATERLOO, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team notched their biggest win in program history with a 6-1 victory over the University of Missouri-Kansas City Friday evening.
In a physical game that included 18 fouls, two red cards and two yellow cards, the Panthers scored early and continued to pressure the Kangaroos throughout the match.
The Panthers jumped out to an early lead, scoring in the fifth minute when Megan Cameron found the back of the net off a corner kick from Grace Goldman.
The Panthers added another goal in the 25th minute when Chelsie Hochstedler scored off a pass from Nicole Ferlito.
Hochstedler then recorded her second goal of the evening, scoring off a penalty kick in the 27th minute.
UMKC put a goal on the board before the halftime break, when Zaina Meyer scored off a pass from Valerie Martin.
The Panthers came out of the break to score three more goals, starting with the second penalty kick of the night, this one coming from Nicole Ferlito in the 65th minute.
Ashley Capone and Mel VanVlair added their first career goals in the Purple and Gold scoring in the 84th and 89th minute, respectively.
The Panthers dominated the offensive side of the ball, outshooting the Kangaroos 19 to three in the contest.
UNI returns to the field Sunday afternoon, taking on Western Michigan at 2 p.m. in the final game of the Panther Invitational.

Prior to tonight's match, the largest margin of victory was a 4-0 Panther win over Indiana State on Oct. 18, 2002.
